At SLB, one of our main objectives is to improve the technical abilities of our members. In practical terms, this means regular in-house training and plenty of more informal opportunities to share ideas. However, from time to time, we open up our sessions to the wider ELT world. This is one of those times!

On Saturday 1st June at 11.00 (CET) one of our newest members, Dale Coulter, will be leading a webinar on how freelancers can pitch their services to potential clients more effectively.

Dale Coulter is a leadership and communication skills trainer and Associate Director of York Associates. A major part of his activities is in a sales-facing role with multi-national companies for leadership, language and communication skills training.

What to expect from the webinar

However we see our freelance status, we all have on thing in common: projects start and finish, customers come and eventually go, and students start, progress and eventually move on.

The reality is that we actually spend very little time developing key sales skills necessary to ensure the longer-term financial stability of what we do. However, any number of these thoughts may have put you off sales in the past:

  • “I fear being rejected or being thought of poorly”
  • “I’m not a ‘born’ salesperson”
  • “I don’t know how to sell myself properly”
  • “I’m not even sure where you find sales!”

The action you can take is simple: some small steps and a strategy for continuous improvement is the way to overcome these barriers.

This webinar will help you take the first steps for getting there. We will focus on:

  • Changing the sales pitch to a sales conversation – a space we’re familiar with.
  • Recognising your value and when / how to communicate it.
  • Getting to ‘no’ – your greatest time saver!
  • Strategies to start getting customers coming to you.
